Professor Dr. PUNEET BATRA is a Gold medalist during BDS and an MDS in Orthodontics from the prestigious AIIMS New Delhi. He is the recipient of the PP Jacob award as well as the JG Kannapan award by the Indian Orthodontic society. He has been awarded the prestigious Commonwealth scholarship at Great Ormond Street Hospital for sick children London as well as the TC white award in Dunddee dental school Scotland. He is an MOrth from Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh and an FFD Orth from Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. He is a DNB in Orthodontics and has done PG Diploma in Hospital Management, PG Diploma in Medico Legal Systems, PG certificate in Oral Implantology. He is a Fellow of World Federation of Orthodontics, International college of Dentist, Pierre Fauchard Academy and International College of Oral Implantology. He has more than 70 publications in national and International journals. He is a member of National Academy of Medical Sciences. He has lectured extensively in India and abroad as invited speaker. He is an executive member of the Indian society of cleft lip and palate and craniofacial anomalies. He is the head of the Department of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics and PG Guide at Institute of Dental Studies and Technologies, Modinagar. He is a Cleft Orthodontist at Global Hospital Mt Abu and SantParmanand Hospital New Delhi.
Orthodontics is the specialty in dentistry which deals with the treatment of malocclusion, and abnormalities related to the craniofacial region. It is that area of the dental profession that has a responsibility to supervise the dental and skeletal growth and development from birth to maturity. It includes all preventive, interceptive and corrective procedures required to establish esthetics, function and stable facial contours. Since its inception, the orthodontic unit is witnessing a steady progress in all dimensions. Presently the department has post graduate course with intake of 5 students each year. The department has state of art facilities, sophisticated gadgets, high quality materials with fully automated dental chairs, photography section, wet and dry lab. Departmental library has latest books for immediate reference. Teaching program has been designed to provide a wide perspective and includes chair side discussions, seminars, journal club, case presentations with all faculty. The department is a pioneer in clinical orthodontics including self -ligation, lingual orthodontics, implants and esthetic orthodontics. The strength behind the success of the department is team of dedicated teaching faculty and non- teaching faculty.
